Travel City Direct - River Cruising Down the Rhine Or Danube Or Beyond

Deciding on which river to explore is a tough decision as they flow in different directions through two completely different regions. The Rhine and Danube River systems are the most traveled in Europe.

Then swings northward through the heart of Germany and finally ends up split into several smaller rivers in the Netherlands, it forms the border between France and Germany for a while, from their. Where it becomes river cruise compatible, touches Austria and Leichtenstein on its way to Basel, the Rhine begins in the mountains of Switzerland.

The Rhine carries the most traffic of any other major river.

And Moldova, ukraine, romania, bulgaria, serbia, croatia, hungary, slovakia, austria, passing along or through Germany, it rises in Germany's Black Forest near Ulm and flows eastward to the Black Sea. Only the Volga is longer; the Danube (Donau) is the second longest river in Europe.

Tisza and Sava, the Danube tributaries include the Drave, and Neckar; main, the Rhine has the Mosel. The tributaries of these 2 rivers make this river system the most traveled in Europe.

They go down the river through the most scenic areas and then return. And there are also 2 and 3 day taster cruises based in Strasbourg offered by CroisiEurope, as the distance covered is shorter, rhine cruises are shorter. The river cruises on these waters generally last a week or more.

All of which are worthy of their own separate cruise, or Main, neckar, other Rhine river cruises detour briefly into the Mosel.

Now ruins or sometimes hotels or just plain tourist attractions, the area between Rudeshiem and Koblenz is heavily infested with former castles, including several along the French border. The lure of ancient castles is part of the Rhine's appeal.

A map locating each of these castles is found at Roll International.

While yet another turn at Mannheim takes you to Heidelberg on the Neckar, another turn at Wiesbaden will bring you to Frankfurt. The Porta Nigra, including a basilica and intact city gate, more Roman ruins there than you can ever imagine. Which is one of my favorite small cities, a sharp turn at Koblenz onto and down the Mosel will bring you to Trier.

Each stop at one city or the other will offer a chance to explore, depending upon the cruise. Offers a look at many of Germany's major cities, notwithstanding castles, the Rhine.

Pretty much covers everything. And beyond. To living in Germany to education, jobs, from river cruises to maternity matters, how To Germany is an entire web site dedicated to information on Germany.

Travels Through Germany is full of info about various river cruises and other tidbits of traveling through Germany.

And Moldova, ukraine, romania, bulgaria, serbia, croatia, hungary, slovakia, austria, passing along or through Germany, it offers serious river cruises as it rises in Germany's Black Forest near Ulm and flows eastward to the Black Sea. Only the Volga is longer; the Danube (Donau) is the second longest river in Europe.

Is no slouch in scenic beauty and adds some spectacular vistas that previously were unattainable due to the political situation, however, the Danube. River cruising on the Rhine is probably the most picturesque and it offers more interesting cities to visit, of the two rivers.

Where most of the river cruises end their journey, izmail (Ukraine), belgrade, novi Sad, budapest, bratislava, vienna, passau, (actually on the Main-Danube Canal), some of the many interesting cities on the Danube include Nuremburg.

Or Sulina Romania) It's theoretically possible to transfer ships and continue on a Danube river cruise through the Black Sea and ending up in the Greek isles - or Spain, if the river cruise continues on to the Black Sea (Constanta. With more small villages than large cities, the eastern reaches of the river are more rural in nature.

There are also several other smaller rivers that provide stunning scenic views and interesting city stops, in regions some may consider off the beaten path, within the area spanned by these two major rivers, in addition.

Most Elbe river cruises start with a short bus ride from Prague to the river. It passes through some pretty rugged territory before it hits the German border. Which flows from the Czech Republic to Hamburg, not to be forgotten is the Elbe.

The day tours provide a bus ride back to Dresden, usually. Travel downriver to the outskirts of Dresden or upstream into the Czech Republic, which can last an hour or an entire day, these cruises. Which should be a mandatory stop, the Elbe also has short cruises originating in Dresden.

On the Berlin outskirts, although most boats will dock in Potsdam, canals connect the Elbe to Berlin.

It's a fascinating and still undeveloped area for river cruises with much to offer. Much of the time on these tours may be through canals or on a bus. But has a wealth of castles and natural beauty, this is an area that is not over-run with tourists. In Poland, one river cruise typically overlooked is on the Vistula.

Gdansk and Warsaw must be on any itinerary, while you're in Poland. The Peter Deilmann Company offers cruises up the Oder River from Potsdam through Poland.

Remember that a visa will be necessary, if you're going on the Danube or Vistula.

Or terrain and move around with the directional button in the upper left, map, choose satellite. Including the city and country and you will be able to zoom in on most areas on the earth, simply type in the address. I suggest a trip to Google Maps to find out more about any area, to find out more about the terrain and cities on any cruise.

I also suggest downloading Google Earth and traveling from the comfort of home, for more fun of discovery. Check out your own home address, while you're there. As well, street views or videos are often available, pictures. With practice you will be able to follow the entire course of a river or road.

Vistula or anything in between is sure to provide for a memorable and educational experience, elbe, danube, a vacation on the Rhine, whether going on a virtual cruise or one in reality.

Thomas Cook Holidays - Panama or Cuba, dominica, living and Retiring Abroad: How about Nova Scotia?

Or maybe simply because we are intrigued by a certain element of adventure and curiosity, perhaps because of a job transfer, perhaps to experience a slower-paced lifestyle, perhaps to enjoy warmer weather, many of us dream of relocating to another country.

And there are many factors to take into account in making this decision, it is a very serious decision with major ramificiations, while moving to another country may sound like an exciting proposition.

Visit: http://www.thegloballife.net, for more information. The Caribbean and Cuba, and special e-Reports of living and retiring in Panama, retiring in Nova Scotia, passport to Canada: The Complete Guide to Living & author of the e-Book, i had a chance to talk with Phillip Townsend.

Please tell us about yourself and your background. 1.

Where I assisted corporate and government clients with international research and other consulting projects, my work took me to 13 East Asian countries, after working as an intern and completing an extensive training program. A German-based global risk consulting firm, i taught English and eventually landed an internship with SIDA, after arriving in the Far East. Republic of China, saved my money and purchased a one-way ticket to Taiwan, i got a part-time job, after high school, as an American who had a teenage fascination with Asian culture.

The San Francisco Chronicle and Expat World, my articles and other writings have appeared in publications as diverse as GQ. I have assisted the governments of Sri Lanka and Ethiopia on promoting tourism and trade (and was considered for an official diplomatic post with the latter). Which also appeared monthly in Industrial Tradesman magazine, a column for the International Employment Gazette, i wrote a biweekly international lifestyle Q& after leaving. America's leading personal finance monthly, i was hired as stringer (correspondent) for Money magazine, later, my career shifted and I began writing freelance and consulting independently, afterwards. Office until the company went out of business several years later. I opened and ran the firm's U.S, after returning to the United States.

Representing the Switzerland-based non-profit organization in Nova Scotia, i'm also a Country Contact for American Citizens Abroad. I spend most of my time writing and researching, currently.

But rather believe in reaping the unique benefits that each nation has to offer, and don't believe there is any single "best" country, i have always been a so-called man of the world.

Please tell us about how you became an expert on these topics. Panama and Cuba, the Caribbean, including Nova Scotia, you are an expert on living and retiring in various regions. 2.

I've assisted people from all walks of life with moves to over sixty countries and six continents. Conducting extensive research and advising hundreds of clients on every aspect of moving abroad and strategic planning (offshore personal and financial issues), i have dedicated my life to international living, over the years, in addition to my experience living abroad and traveling widely.

What makes Nova Scotia a great destination for expatriate or retirement living? Travelling and investing in Nova Scotia, retiring, please tell us about living. 3.

000), perhaps the most appealing benefit of living in Nova Scotia are the affordable real estate prices (some lots with ocean views can be had for as little as C$20. With incidents of violent crime being remarkably low, nova Scotia enjoys a low crime rate, also. Winters can be much milder (with less snow) than in other places in Canada or the northern US, in many places in Nova Scotia. The climate is another plus. Friendly people and a slower pace and reasonable prices make it one of the most livable places in Canada or anywhere in North America, a beatiful countryside, nova Scotia is the type of place that can seduce you through its sheer natural beauty: The long stretches of picturesque coastline.

What should one know about living and retiring to this beautiful island in the Caribbean? Travelling and investing in Dominica, please inform us about living. 4.

000, 000 to C$47, and build a home for as little as C$28, 000, 000 to C58, you can find oceanfront lots for prices ranging from C42, for example. Dominica's prices are refreshingly down-to-earth, which cater to tourists and the high-end market, unlike most of the Caribbean's islands. Little-explored reefs and small hotels (some of which are for sale for a steal), intimate beaches, you'll find volcanic mountains, instead of luxury resorts and long stretches of crowded white sand beaches. Dominica is the Caribbean's most rugged isle, and lush rain forests, hot springs, rivers (365 of them), a land of waterfalls. The island is splendidly underdeveloped, roughly halfway between Martinique and Guadeloupe. Dominica is welcome retreat of peace and quiet in the Caribbean's sea of mass tourism, with no direct flights from North America or Europe.

What makes this a desirable place and what do we need to know about it? Travelling and investing in Panama, please give us a brief overview about living. 5.

Anyone over 18 can qualify for these "retirement" benefits, best of all. Including 20-year tax-free status and discounts on everything from public transportation to restaurants to doctor's visits, the Panamanian government has put together an impressive list of benefits in their pensionado program, in order to attract expatriates. A warm climate and great beaches, panama offers affordable real estate. But less crowded and with property prices about a tenth of the cost in many cases, is like Florida, both on the Caribbean and Pacific sides, panama's coast.

A chain of over 90 islands and 130 islets in the Caribbean, and the Pearl Islands, a scenic and growing expatriate hideaway in Panama's mountainous region; boquette, the capital which boasts First-world infrastructure and is home to virtually every large American brand-name chain; the three best places to purchase real estate in Panama are Panama City, right now. English is widely spoken and understood in major cities, though Spanish is the official language.

What do they need to know about Cuba before considering to move there? What makes this unique island an interesting destination for foreigners thinking of living or retiring there? Travelling and investing in Cuba, please talk to us about living. 6.

The warm hospitality of the Cuban people all combine to make it a great place to visit and potentially live, most of all, and, music, the food. And continued economic hardship make it one of the world's most eye-opening nations with a wealth of places just waiting to be discovered, interesting political history, the island's Cuba's rich culture. Havana, with more than 2 million living in the capital, cuba is home to just over 11 million people.

000 Americans visited Cuba (most through Canada or Mexico), 200, last year, despite the embargo. Has not achieved its goals after being in place for more than 40 years, aimed at forcing a change in Cuba's leadership, embargo. But critics argue that the Cold War-era U.S. Officials say open trade and travel to Cuba would strengthen Castro's oppressive government. U.S.

With the hope that property values and other investments will multiply after the fall of communist rule, a few have already made an investment in the "forbidden" isle by putting down roots there, though most would-be expatriates will wait until the fall of the Castro-lead communist rule.

Where are you currently travelling and what is on your agenda for the near future? 7.

I plan to continue my ongoing pursuit of reporting on new and interesting expatriate destinations around the world. But will be exploring some interesting locales in South America and Eastern Europe, i'm in upstate New York, currently.

What are your suggestions for anyone thinking of living or retiring abroad, in general? 8.

Narrowing the possibilities can be a daunting task, with literally dozens of appealing countries to choose from. Others will be enticed by retiree perks and tax incentives. And fell in love with a country, worked or studied, some will want to return to their ancestral homes or to places where they once vacationed. Many Canadians and Americans are lured abroad by a lower cost of living and higher quality of life.

Consult competent real estate and legal professionals before signing any contracts or other official documents, most importantly. Be sure to talk with locals and expatriates living there. Make an exploratory visit and stay for a few months before committing yourself by purchasing property. The most important thing is to do your homework, no matter where you consider settling.

Have a structural survey done, if you are buying anything in need of restoration (or more than a hundred years old), also. Or historic construction bans that prevent you from making any external changes to a property (even installing a pool), those in rural Italy that give your neighbors first-refusal rights on any land used for agricultural purposes (which could leave someone else with the fruit in the vineyard or olive grove on "your" property), those in England and France that allow sheep to pass through your property, like those in parts of Canada that allow anyone to fish on your land, they should also advise you of any strange archaic laws. Your attorney should then receive a copy of the title and verify that the property is free from any liens or claims against the property. 10 to 25 percent) will probably be required to take the house off the market, a security deposit (generally, the buyer and the seller to agree on a price, the process of buying abroad generally works like this: First, while every place has it own set of rules and nuances.

For providing us with further ideas and important background information about a few interesting choices on living and retiring abroad, phillip, thank you.

Carlingford Accommodation - Editor of Verge Magazine coming Up: Jeff Minthorn,

The magazine's motto is "study - work - volunteer - travel" and it focuses on traveling with a purpose. One of the magazines I picked up recently is called Verge and I felt it really stood out from the crowd of travel magazines. But I am also a voracious reader, not only am I a travel nut.

Work and volunteer abroad, once I explored their website I discovered that their primary target audience is young people who might want to take a year off university and focus on opportunities to study. The magazine is unique in that it talks a lot about learning vacations and volunteer vacations.

He has traveled extensively throughout Europe and also worked in Antarctica. He completed a degree in environmental studies and architecture and during university he took a year off and lived in Rome. He has quite an interesting background and is no stranger to travel; jeff Minthorn is one of the two founders of the magazine.

He also worked as an outdoor wilderness guide and instructor. Later he took time off work and worked as a volunteer with special needs adults. Specializing in residential renovations, he ran his own design/build company. Throughout his working life he has become involved in quite different endeavours.

About 6 months passed between that fateful conversation over coffee and the day when the first issue of Verge hit the newsstands in September of 2002. Jeff is one of those people who has successfully turned his dream into reality. And so the idea for Verge Magazine was born. Jeff and his friend Tannis sat down around 3 years ago over a cup of coffee and decided that they wanted to do something different.

And I look forward to introduce him to you, two and half years later Jeff has become an experienced publisher and editor of a unique publication.

Working Holiday Visa - Mount Dora: Southern Charm in Central Florida

Indeed the rolling hillsides and winding roads are a welcome unique feature in the generally flat topography of Florida. Which makes it Florida's only "mountain top town", it has an elevation of 184 feet above Lake Dora. Mount Dora is only 27 miles or 43 km northwest of Orlando. And one of its main attractions was a scenic railway, i had read that it was a very picturesque small town located on a lake. I stumbled over a little town by the name of Mount Dora just about 45 minutes north of Orlando, in my quest to find unusual destinations to visit in the Orlando area.

And Louis, ella, tremain - Roy. C. Named after the three children of Postmaster R, in 1880 the town's first name was Royellou. She and her husband homesteaded two miles south of Mount Dora. In 1846 Lake Dora was named for Dora Ann Drawdy. Mount Dora's history dates back to the 1800s.

While today Mount Dora's major industry is tourism, with a great deal shipped from Mount Dora, at one time citrus was the major industry in the area. The first railroad service through Mount Dora began in 1887 and by 1915 there were two passenger trains daily in each direction. 000 people, the town now has a population of around 10, incorporated as a town in 1910 with 370 residents. Then in 1883 the town was renamed Mount Dora.

Including: the town also has a number of claims to fame, according to the Local Chamber of Commerce,

- The Friendliest Small Town

- Best Antique Shopping

- The New England of the South

- The City of Parks

- Festival City

- Top 100 Great Towns of America

- Best Romantic Escape

- Money Magazine "Top Places to Live Today"

We departed in a Pullman sleeper railcar originally built in 1949 that was later refunctioned as a commuter railcar. The ride I went on is a one hour train ride between Mount Dora and Wooton Park in Tavares. Florida, located in Mount Dora and Eustis, which is part of the Inland Lakes Railway, what drew me here personally was the ride on the the "Herbie Express".

With an opportunity for a short visit in Eustis to enjoy Ferran Park and area shops, the Lake County Champion round trip is 2 hours and 20 minutes. And the Magnolia Sun Lunch Train, the Blue Swan Dinner Train, such as the Lake County Champion, the Lake Eustis / Mount Dora Railway also features other train rides. A young conductor explained the local sights to us and kept us entertained. And suburban residences, the route initially takes you along Lake Dora and later continues inland past shopping malls.

The grounds are beautifully landscaped. Gingerbread trim and a steep roof crowned with a corner spire, it features a wrap-around porch. Established in 1883, the oldest structure in Mount Dora is the Lakeside Inn.

This Queen Anne-style structure uses design elements characteristic of the Victorian Era. Mount Dora's most renowned architectural jewel is the Donnelly House. Home of the Mount Dora Area Chamber of Commerce since 1973, many of the walking and trolley tours through this quaint town start at the former 1915 Atlantic Coast Line Depot.

The Donnelly House is just one of the many restored 19th and early 20th century buildings in the Golden Triangle area. The home sits on Donnelly Street within walking distance from downtown Mount Dora. The first mayor of Mount Dora, the Donnelly House was constructed in 1893 by John Phillip Donnelly.

Interesting cafes and restaurants as well as charming bed and breakfasts, decorative art galleries, fashion boutiques, the town also features a large variety of gift shops. Renninger's Twin Markets is renowned for its antiques shopping. This charming little town also features a whole host of specialty retailers and is one of Florida's largest antiques and collectibles centers.

The park also features a tennis court and shuffleboard facilities. Offers free concerts and other civic events, located right downtown and dating back to 1924, donnelly Park. Are the many public green spaces by the water, which also refers to itself as "City of Parks", one of my favourite features of this town.

Its 300 member association plays host to local and regional tournaments. One of the largest in the United States, the park is adjacent to the Mount Dora Lawn Bowling Club. The view from the waterfront bench was magnificent and I relaxed on the bench as I soaked up the sunshine. Which is located across from the lighthouse, after my demanding stroll through Mount Dora's winding streets I walked down to the waterfront to Evans Park.

Croquet court and children's playground along Alexander Creek, picnic area, gilbert Park features a public boat ramp. This lighthouse was built of bricks and donated by local residents. Simpson Cove and Grantham Point are adjacent to Palm Island Park and feature the only inland freshwater lighthouse in Florida.

And local indidgenous plants can be admired here as well, including bald eagles, other wildlife. Palm Island Park features a 1700 foot fresh water hiking trail and boardwalk through oak trees draped with Spanish moss.

Crafts Fair and Plant and Garden Fair, bicycle Festival, golf Tournament, antique Car Show, other events include the Antique Boat Show. 000 people each year and has been ranked among the top art shows in the country, this event attracts over 150. The City hosts many major annual events such as the popular "Mount Dora Arts Festival".

Tennis Resort and the Pine Meadows Country Club, the Mission Inn Golf & heathrow Country Estates Redtail Golf Course, eagle Dunes Golf Course, deer Island Golf Club, the Country Club of Mount Dora, including the Black Bear Golf Club, the Mount Dora area also offers a variety of other golf courses. This outing was a real bargain, and at $18 including cart, he played a beautifully manicured full-size 18-hole course. My husband played golf at the Mount Dora Golf Association, while I was exploring this charming little town.

Mount Dora is a great day trip from Orlando and we enjoyed our drive back through the countryside of rural Florida. Soaking up the sun while waiting to hear about my husband's golf adventures, i capped off my explorations with a delicious late afternoon ice cream on the patio of the Sunshine Mountain Bakery.

Luxury Hotels In Arizona - Affordable Oaxaca As A Local For Any Grand Fiesta

. . Or planning that anniversary bash, turning 50, if you're getting married.

Affordable Oaxaca as a locale for any grand fiesta

With a large glossy photo album of memories to boot, or less, 000, you can do here in Oaxaca for $10, or more, 000, what you would love to do at home but can't because it would cost $50. Certainly relative to what it would cost in the US or Canada, also because it's affordable. Because it's part of a longstanding cultural tradition, here in Oaxaca we do it in spades. They say that Mexicans really know how to party.

And shared many magical moments with the couple in a storybook setting just outside of the city, musicians and producers came from all corners of the globe, singers, actors. Part of a wedding party for a bride and groom in the entertainment industry, a couple of years ago a few celebrants stayed with us. La The Big Chill (albeit different circumstances), á making the celebration a reunion of sorts, even better if you have friends and family scattered throughout the continent and further abroad who would be willing to gather together in Oaxaca. You're Oaxaca-bound, then once you're convinced that at least some of your closest hometown kin and friends would be interested in making the trek and participating in the festivities. And willing to experience all that Oaxacan custom has to offer for your next big celebratory rite of passage, and its institutions, its people, both you and your partner must be passionate about the city, first of all.

And restaurants serving up the best that this mecca of culinary seduction has to offer, of course there are other more familiar options such as hotel ballrooms. A rural venue in which a rodeo performance (with our daughter a participant) was part of the merriment, and; immaculately groomed grounds and gardens, a former hacienda with expansive, cor; each in a totally different setting: a downtown banquet hall noted for its revolutionary period dé we've thrown three such large fiestas, and now as residents of the city, first as frequent visitors to, over the past ten years, for our part.

So as to maintain both rhythm and ritual for seven to twelve hours, and episodic events indicative of local mores peppering the affair, a well-orchestrated evening (or daytime fiesta stretching well into the night) will include ceremonial song and dance. And the list continues; other regional customs geared to your particular celebration; a unique array of adornments for the hall; table arrangements of the most exotic of tropical flowers; marimbas and Andes-music-style troubadours; in addition to mariachis, an eight-piece dance band playing to both modern and traditional tastes, and you can have it all: a colorful folkloric troupe performing a guelaguetza to live music. . . But it's the pageantry and the availability of a broad diversity of offerings which make such an event extraordinary .

Making for a feast of truly bacchanalian proportion, but not to fret the meal ending without there being further indulging of gastronomic proportion for the duration: the Oaxacan tradition is to not terminate a function without offering a second entirely different meal well after cake and cognac have been consumed.

Mezcal and tequila, and of course Mexico's renowned beer, apertifs, scotches and other hard liquors, there is no shortage of readily available quality wines and champagnes, not to be overlooked. Once your dance legs have begun to wane, chilaquiles or pozole make up that late-night after dinner pick-me-up, usually tamales. And everything else in between. . . With its own peculiar pomp and ceremony , to the ever-so-customary barbacoa --- goat or sheep with all the trimmings prepared in an in-ground oven, to traditional Oaxacan fare, meal options range from the high end continental genre.

You can even consider printing up a few downtown walking tours to distribute to each attendee. Galleries and shops will hold the attention of every class of tourist for at least three additional days, museums, and of course the downtown core with its colonial churches. Ruins and other sites, towns on their market days, so they can visit the craft villages, to select from several routes in the central valleys just outside of the city, perhaps in groups based on particular interests, thereby enabling your vacationers, with vans accommodating up to 15 passengers, there are several small tour companies and individual guides in the city. You don't even have to worry about entertaining your guests for the balance of their trip, and after all is done.

But a vacation at an extremely attractive price, you're providing not only a remarkable cultural encounter they would not otherwise experience. Breakfast Association will be more than accommodating in terms of offering courtesy reductions to your group, and members of the Oaxaca Bed & hotels, just for the asking most restaurants, making the trip even more affordable for your relatives and friends. The implication being that your guests can now land in Oaxaca for less than it would have cost them seven or eight years ago, other airlines have now come to the table with their own discounted fares! Travelers from virtually everywhere in North American are able to reach Oaxaca via Houston and avoid Mexico City as a transfer point, with Continental's attractively priced flight routes expanding.

Sun and surf worshipers amongst your crowd have the option of extending their trip with a quick jaunt to the coastal resort towns of Huatulco and Puerto Escondido, the sand. Lazing and sipping margaritas, the State of Oaxaca boasts its own beaches for swimming, in addition to providing an unmatched richness of past and present cultural traditions contributing to the city's designation as a UNESCO world heritage site. And in fact offers more, oaxaca will not be outdone by such venues. Hawaii and Mexico's Caribbean and Pacific resort towns have become popular destinations for nuptials and other celebrations, cuba.

Soon we might even be able to accommodate that Bar Mitvah you're planning, and with a resident rabbi rumored to be on the horizon. Flare and imagination unmatched, with color, oaxaca's businesses in the social event planning industry are ready and anxious to accommodate just about every fiesta its visitors might contemplate.
